The Traxxas XRT is the newest truck in the Traxxas Lineup. The Traxxas XRT is an 8S monster truck that can reach speeds of 60+ miles per hour! The Traxxas XRT was built with an emphasis on speed and handling. It comes equipped with metal parts, a low center of gravity chassis, a clipless body, and the massive Velineon VXL-8S ESC and motor power system. In this post, we will see how fast is the Traxxas XRT and what Traxxas has done to make this one of the most exciting new trucks of the year! Lets dive in!
How Fast Is The Traxxas XRT?
The Traxxas XRT can reach speeds of 50+ miles per hour right out of the box. The XRT has a 20 tooth pinion gear and a 50 tooth spur gear pre-installed.
However, if you want to reach 60+ miles per hour you must install the included high speed pinion and spur gears. You also need to power the XRT with two 8S LiPo batteries.
Traxxas XRT High Speed Gears
The optional high speed gears come included with the Traxxas XRT. They are not installed on the truck, so you will have to install them yourself.
Included in the box are a 23 tooth pinion gear and a 46 tooth spur gear. So, you will have to pop off the20T pinon gear that is attached to the motor and install the 23T high speed pinon gear. You will also need to replace the 50T spur gear with the optional 46T spur gear.
What Scale Is The Traxxas XRT?
The Traxxas XRT is a 1/6 scale monster truck. 1/6 scale RC trucks are huge and take massive batteries to power them.
The XRT is 31.41 inches (798mm) long, sits 10.15 inches (258mm) tall, and weighs 23.87 pounds (10.83kgs) with two 8S LiPo batteries and the body installed.
The XRT has a ground clearance of 1.93 inches (49mm). Compared to the X-Maxx, the XRT sits much lower to the ground. I would classify the XRT of a monster truggy rather than a monster truck.
Traxxas XRT Parts and Components
The Traxxas XRT comes packed with the best parts and components Traxxas has to offer. In this section, we will explore how these components help such a big truck reach speeds of 60+ miles per hour.
Traxxas XRT Chassis
The chassis on the XRT is a modular design instead of one large chassis tray. The chassis comes in the key modular parts:
- A front wheel assembly
- A center tray housing the ESC
- A rear wheel assembly housing the motor and wing
The modular chassis design should make repairs easier and the rig stronger. When bashing or racing the truck at high speeds, a strong chassis is a must have feature.
Here is what Traxxas has to say about the new modular chassis:
XRT’s chassis relies on modules that key into each other at precise angles to add strength and support where it’s needed most. This

Traxxas XTR Motor
Velineon has built an amazing motor for the XRT. The truck comes equipped with the Velineon® 1200XL Brushless motor. This motors comes equipped with dual cooling fans and a huge aluminum heat sink. The enhanced cooling features should increase performance, reduce wear on the motor, and provide longer run times.
So if you are wondering how fast is the Traxxas XRT, the answer is blazing fast!
Traxxas XTR Shocks
Traxxas has installed their performance GTR Race Shocks on the XRT. These bad boys are all aluminum, oil filled racing shocks. They have heavy duty springs and an adjustable shock collar. That means you can stiffen up or loosen the shock pre-load to fit your driving style.
I think adjustable shocks are must have components on every RC truck. If the truck isn’t popping off jumps properly, you can tighten or loosen the shock springs to get a better launch angle off the jumps.
Adjustable shocks also help keep the tired locked on the ground. When you are driving at full speed, well-tuned shocks will help transfer that power to the dirt.
Traxxas XTR Battery Mounts
Traxxas opted to ditch hook and loop battery mounts on the XRT and installed a snap-lock battery retainer. With the snap-lock battery retainer, you can secure the batteries in place without straps and even add body pins to the locking mechanism for max battery security.
Traxxas Stability Management
Traxxas TSM is a stability management feature that helps keep the truck under control. The Traxxas XRT comes with TSM out of the box! TSM is designed to help the truck accelerate in a straight line as fast as possible. The best part about TSM is is does not dull the throttle to help keep the truck driving in a straight line. You can punch this beast with max throttle and it will power in a straight line without rolling over from the extreme torque.
Conclusion How Fast Is The Traxxas XRT
Its exciting to see one of the biggest brands in RC Cars release the brand new Traxxas XRT, and at 1/6 scale, this is a monster of a truggy. The 8S-VXL ESC and Velineon 1200XL electric motor will provide extreme power to all four wheels and help this truck reach speeds of up to 60+ miles per hour! This truck has a slew of performance parts that come standard on the truck, too. So If you are interested in big RC trucks, this is an excellent truck to add to your collection! I can’t wait to get my XRT and see what this bad boy can do! Happy bashing!
FAQs On How Fast Is The Traxxas XRT
Is the Traxxas XRT A Good Basher?
This truck was made for bashing. It has heavy duty bumpers and the Traxxas WideMaxx suspension system installed.
The WideMaxx suspension increases the overall width of the truck. A wide wheelbase will help the truck stay upright when bashing hard in loose dirt. The wide wheel base paired with Traxxas TSM will greatly improve the truck’s handling while bashing around.
The XRT’s heavy duty bumpers are designed to take hard front and rear impacts. The material and design of the bumpers help to absorb the force of hard crashes and impacts.
Is The Traxxas XRT Waterproof?
Yes, the Traxxas XRT is waterproof. It comes equipped with a sealed receiver box, a waterproof steering servo, and a waterproof ESC. That means you can drive your truck in mud, water, or snow without fear of ruining your new trucks electronics
