You don’t want to buy a car and then realize you need additional parts to drive it. Not having all the parts and components you need to drive the car will ruin your day! This post will showcase the best ARRMA RC car packages for beginners and will show you everything you need to get your new RC car on the race track! Let’s dive in!
What Parts Are Required To Drive Your New ARRMA RC Car?
It may come as a surprise, but most hobby-grade RC cars do not come with all the items you need to get the car driving.
Here is a checklist of things you need to drive your new RC car right away:
- A ready-to-roll and fully assembled vehicle
- A transmitter that is linked to the vehicle
- A Battery charger
- A LiPo battery
- Double A batteries for the transmitter
If you are shopping for your first ARRMA RC car, all four items on the list above are mandatory to get your car running.
Almost all RC cars and trucks from ARRMA come fully assembled with a remote controller (transmitter.) Most of their models do not come with a battery or battery charger.
The whole point of this blog post is to help you find the best ARRMA RC car package for new drivers. So, let’s dive into our recommended RC car packages from ARRMA.
Our Recommended ARRMA RC Car Package For Beginners
The first decision you must make when picking out your first ARRMA RC is – Do you want a car or a truck?
If you are on the fence, get a truck or truggy. You can do anything you want with an RC truck. But with an RC car like the ARRMA Vendetta, you’re limited to driving on smooth pavement.
With an RC truck, you can do speed runs up and down an empty parking lot, you can drive in the grass and can hit big jumps.
With an RC car, you can reach higher max speeds and can turn on a dime, but you lose the ability to drive off the pavement.
From my experience driving RCs since I was a kid, I enjoy my trucks and drive them more often than my road racers.
ARRMA RC Trucks Packages For Beginners
The ARRMA Senton is one of my favorite trucks because it’s tough, fast, and a big RC! It is a 1/10 scale short course truck that is great for bashing, racing, and hitting jumps.
Below are the three items you will need to buy to get driving right away.
You only need 1 battery pack to drive this truck. But I suggest picking up at least two packs.
You can expect about 30 minutes of average driving from one 5000 mAh battery pack. If you are full throttle and doing nothing but speed runs, you can expect about 20 minutes of drive time per charge.
So, picking up two packs will double your drive time!
The ARRMA Senton
Here is the Parts List to get driving right away! You only need one of each, but again, I suggest getting two batteries.
The Arrma Senton comes assembled and ready to roll. It comes with a radio transmitter that is linked to the truck. all you need to do is add double A batteries to the radio transmitter and install a fully charged LiPo battery. The LiPo and battery charging parts are listed below the truck!
The truck passes items #1 and #2 on our checklist – it is ready to roll and comes with a transmitter! Next up is the battery pack.
2. Spektrum 5000 mAh LiPo battery pack
This battery pack is awesome. Full stop. It is a 3S LiPo and provides 11.1 volts to the electric motor.
It has a 100C discharge rating. That means it will send a strong and steady current to the motor when you are going full throttle.
5000 mAh of capacity will power the car for a long time. You can expect about 20-30 minutes of run time out if this LiPo pack.
To recap, this pack has a large capacity (5000 milliamp hours,) has three cells that produce 11.1 volts, and has a very high 100C discharge rating. If you want to get the best performance out of your Senton, a 3S pack is recommended. You can run a 2S LiPo pack in the Senton, but it won’t accelerate as fast or reach the 55+ mile per hour max speed rating.
Long story short, if your car can handle 3S, get a 3S LiPo and let it rip.
3. Spektrum SMART S155 LiPo Charger
The S155 charger can handle LiPo batteries up to 4S. That means it should work just fine with the 3S pack recommended above. If you plan on getting an Arrma Kraton or any other 4S-capable vehicle, this charger should work with your 4S packs.
This charger comes with selectable IC3 and IC5 charging ports. That means you don’t need to purchase separate adapters. It will charge and balances Spektrum Smart G2 batteries with one simple IC3 or IC5 connection. It does have a balance charging port for any other pack you have that are not Smart batteries by Spektrum.
Best ARRMA RC Buggy Packages For Beginners
The ARRMA Typhon is another great option for your first RC vehicle. The Typhon is a buggy. Buggies are a crossover between RC trucks and cars. RC buggies sit lower to the ground than larger RC trucks and are great for racing on a track and driving off-road.
As you can see from the image below, the Typhon is a sleek RC racing buggy. It has large off-road wheels that can propel the vehicle through medium-thick grass and can even go offroading.
This vehicle comes with everything you need to start driving right away.
You don’t need to buy a battery or charger. These parts come in the box.
The Typhon meets all of our checklist items and comes with the following:
- A fully assembled vehicle that is ready to roll
- A transmitter
- A NiMH battery
- A battery charger
Arrma Typhon V3 MEGA 550 Cons
The only downside to this vehicle is the motor and battery packs are not quite as good as the Senton above.
The Typhon comes with a brushed motor and NiMH battery. The Senton above has a brushless motor and can run on LiPo battery packs. To sum it up, LiPo batteries and brushless motors are faster than brushed motors and NiMH packs.
The Typhon is still a very fast buggy. According to ARRMA, the Typhon can reach 30MPH and 48KMH speeds when the optional gearing has been installed.
So the Typhon is the cheaper option and comes with everything you need to get rolling. The Senton is a faster truck with a better motor, and you need to purchase a LiPo and charger separately.
