Traxxas is known for producing some of the best RC cars and trucks on the market. But, I think the TRX-4 Traxxas Rock Crawler RC line up beats the competition. Whether you are looking for a jeep, pickup truck, or Bronco, Traxxas has a the right crawler for you! Also, all of Traxxas’ crawlers are skill level 1 which makes them perfect for beginners.
I love crawlers because they look so much like a real vehicle and you can customize just about every aspect of the vehicle. You can buy light bar kits, winches, roof racks, and a whole lot more. In this post we will review the most popular Traxxas Rock Crawler RC vehicles on the market.
What Traxxas Rock Crawler RC Models Are There?
Traxxas makes the following Rock Crawler RC Models:
- TRX-4M Bronco
- TRX-4M Defender
- TRX-4 Defender
- TRX-4 2021 Bronco
- TRX-4 Sport
- TRX-4 1979 Blazer
- TRX-4 1979 Bronco
- TRX-4 Traxx
- TRX-4 K10 Pickup
- TRX-6 G 63
- TRX-6 Flatbed Hauler
All of the TRX-4 models are 1/10 scale while the TRX-4M models are 1/18 scale models. The 1/10 scale vehicles are larger than the TRX-4M 1/18 scale models. However, there has been a lot of hype around the smaller 1/18 TRX-4M models that came out in 2022. I have seen many positive reviews on the TRX-4M line up and expect Traxxas to release more smaller scale crawlers next year.
What is the best Traxxas Rock Crawler RC Model?
If you are new to crawlers, you can’t go wrong buying into the TRX-4 chassis. Personally, I think the TRX-4 1979 Bronco is the coolest crawler Traxxas makes. It has that retro 1970’s body style and paint scheme that looks absolutely fantastic.
The 1979 TRX-4 Bronco has an adjustable wheelbase, dual battery trays for 2 LiPo batteries, and aluminum scale shocks. Again, I can’t get over how cool this crawler looks which is why it is my top pick from Traxxas.

Best Traxxas RC Crawler Trucks
Rock crawler trucks are a very popular choice for drivers looking to start crawling, and Traxxas has the perfect truck! The Traxxas TRX-4 Sport is a single cab pickup truck that has all the details of a real-world rock clawer. I think the painted front two hooks look awesome!
The TRX-4 Sports comes with a 21T 550 high-torque brushed Titan motor and the XL5 3S capable ESC. I love the XL5 ESC because it can run either LiPo or NiMH batteries.
When it comes to crawling, the ESC is so important. Depending on the terrain, you may need to drive the truck slowly and give very little control inputs. This truck can be put into several different modes to help tackle any terrain type.
The ESC modes are:
- Crawl Mode for extreme terrain
- Trail Mode for rough terrain
- Training Mode for new drivers
- Sport Mode for high speed driving
- Race Mode to disable reverse

This truck is equipped with all of the features that make the TRX-4 a capable off-road vehicle, such as portal axles, waterproof electronics, and a remote locking differential.
